For some reason, sometimes my blogger entries don't get posted. This angers me, and makes it harder to post.
Grrr. It's been snowing off-and-on in Seattle for the past few days. It dumbfounds me how poorly prepared people are here for snow. On the clan lord front, I had a minor breakthrough taking my 4th circle fighter test last night, I managed to kill both the greater wraith and the green noid for the first time. I only had 20% health left, however, so the Fury took me out easily. Probably only a few months before I pass. Monday, January 28, 2002
Wooo! Ok, for years I've been trying to find a good cheap drinking Fez that fits my big ole head. First, I checked Archie McPhee's cuz they've got all sorts of wacky stuff. Rubber chickens, rubber cockroaches, rubber eyeballs, Pope-on-a-rope, if it's weird, they often have it. Anyway, they had 'em, but sized for a small child or a large monkey. Not good.
Later I went to a Display And Costume store (named Display and Costume), and their fezs (fezi? I dunno what the plural of fez is) were bigger, but still too small for a size-extra-mombo grape like I have. The other year some friends went temporarily insane and joined their family for a "vacation" to Uzbekistan in August. Holy Uff-Da! Morons. Anyway, they found some cool hats, but no fezs. My brother (the Archaeology geek PhD student) did a dig in Morocco, I should have asked him, but spaced it out. Anyway, apparently Archie McPhee now has huge fezes! Check it out! BeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeR Played a bit of Clan Lord this weekend. CTF rocks, I greatly enjoy it. Wednesday, January 23, 2002
Bridget's car was running weak last weekend, so we took it in. Turns out one of the spark plugs was fubar, now it runs strong. I was decyphering the bill trying to figure out how they managed to charge us $100 for an oil change, and noticed that they'd charged us for 14 oil filters. Uff.
Down to 185 pounds this morning, which drags my rolling average weight down to 188lbs, that's down over 1000 cal/day (at 3500 cal/pound, that's 2 pounds/week) over the past two weeks. Bridget and I have been watching Roots on TV (the Hallmark channel, which I'd never watched or heard of before) the past three nights. I have not yet been able to stay awake until 11pm, missed 45 minutes of the first episode, 25 of the second, and about 25 of last night. heh. I keep hearing about how this show shocked Americans 25 years ago, and that most people had no clue about how bad slavery was before it aired. Huh. I don't see what the big deal is, this show is exactly how bad my image of slavery was. I dunno, I suppose I read more than most people. Monday, January 14, 2002
I used to shun new year's resolutions as stupid. I mean, if I want to change something about myself, why the ^&$* wait until Jan 1, why not just start today? Today is better than tomorrow.
However, this year I sorta have one. Two years ago I read The Hacker's Diet and it made a ton of sense to me, despite the stupid name and even dumber subtitle. Basically it says if you want to lose weight you have to eat less, and explains the how and why. Exercise makes only a minor difference in body weight unless you are running marathons. My senior year in high school, I was 6'1" and weighed 130lbs. Damn that's skinny. Looking back at pictures, I looked like a concentration camp victim. Crickey! That summer, three months at Marine Corps bootcamp put 25 more pounds on me, putting me at 155lbs. I'd gradually worked up from that weight to 170lbs, until about seven years ago when I and some housemates installed a CO2 keg system and fridge in my house. I gained 20lbs in about 2 months having beer on tap. Mmmm! Those were good times. By Jan of 2000, I weighed 200lbs. Not fat, but bigger than I wanted to be. I started eating about 2000 calories a day, and I determined I burn about 3300 a day. That loss of 1300 a day results in a third of a pound of weight loss per day, and I worked my way down to 175 in about three months. Since then I sorta gaffed things off, and worked back to 195. I decided to get back on that horse and get back down under 180, maybe under 170. It'd be sorta fun to be the same weight as Bridget for a few days before the baby is born. heh. Isabel has started eating cheerios, she still doesn't have any teeth but in just a few days has gotten pretty good at picking them up between thumb and forefinger and sticking them in her mouth to be gummed to death. She occasionally chokes a little on them, it's hard to learn you gotta chew BEFORE you swallow. heh. It's totally amazing how fast babies develop.
This is the first time in the past seven years that I haven't been in San Fran for MacWorld. It makes me sorta sad. The budget here just wouldn't support it, the state is looking at a huge budget deficit. A tradition at MacWorld has been to go to this dank British pub called Edinbourough Castle for tasty pints of european beers and single malt whiskey. Since none of us are down there, we're going to a local British pub called George and Dragon for some beer tonight in honor of MacWorld. I'm taking a vacation day tomorrow and going skiing with my friend from Germany. Should be a blast without weekend crowds, but the weather isn't cooperating. Tuesday, January 08, 2002
I went to visit my brother's new van. It's really sweet. It's a 1966. It originally was blue, and has been painted yellow. My brother plans on stripping it down and then having it painted bright yellow down below and white on top. Wooo! Monday, January 07, 2002
Funny. My two local younger brothers called me up at 3pm yesterday. They were on capital hill, and were trying to buy an old 21-window 1960s VW Bus (sample image of similar Bus) and needed my help. It was in a parking garage, and not running. They needed my help with my truck to come tow it out so they could have AAA tow it home for their. Turns out the parking garage had a very steep narrow exit, but we managed to get it out. The AAA driver figured out the battery terminals were corroded and got the thing started, so my brothers were able to just drive it home. It's a SWEET bus. Has a canvas snap-on cover over the center part of the roof, so it's "convertible". heh. Ah, those wacky hippies! Thursday, January 03, 2002
Bah. Got my ass kicked at poker last night. We also had some trouble since everyone brought ^&%* yuppie food coupons (aka $20 bills) and we had no freakin' change. It ended up working out OK.
Isabel is doing better, or at least not puking anymore. Still isn't very hungry, poor little girl. Wednesday, January 02, 2002
Had a great weekend. On Friday we took off at noon to head over the mountains to Wenatchee, WA, where we met up with a friend of mine from college who lives in Munich and his family, and went skiing at . Fun place to ski, and my first day skiing this season. Awesome day, I really love skiing.
My poor Huskies lost an amazing game in the Holiday Bowl against Texas, the lead changed 5 times, including us scoring a touchdown to take the lead with less than 2 minutes left, and Texas driving back to score the winning touchdown with 30 seconds left. Well, 8-4 is a good record for a rebuilding year, and we've got the foundation in place for a great season next year! Monday was a short day of work, then we went to two parties. The first one was at 6pm with people from Bridget's baby group, it was a fun party, lots of cute babies, fun people. After dropping the baby off at home with grandma, we went to my friend's 'party'. Uff-da. It was 8 guys sitting on couches and chairs around a TV watching a Croc Hunter marathon on Animal Planet. Yesterday was a typical New Years Day, watch a load of football bowl games. We also watched two hours of Sopranos 2nd season (borrowed the DVDVDVDVD) and tried to watch Moulan Rouge but after 45 minutes neither of us could take it. Isabel was sick all yesterday, she had the dry heaves in the morning, then threw up 3oz of formula on her grandma. We eventually got some 50/50 apple juice/water in her, and then some formula. She slept most of the day. She was so sad looking, she didn't know why she felt so bad. It's her first flu-like illness. Such a cute little trooper. |
