Boo hoo hoo. My Huskies got their fucking asses totally kicked today. I mean, destroyed. Ohio State went up 28 to nothing before they sent their 3rd string in for some practice and we managed to get 3 points. Fuck. Looks like yet another shitty football season. Bah!

Um, warning. I'm pissed, and have a potty mouth. That is all.

Fucking Comcast. They now offer EPSN-HD, PBS-HD, and starting tomorrow they offer our local ABC affiliate in High Definition TV as well. That means HDTV Monday Night Football. (DROOL!) (Oh yeah, I must repeat that, DROOL!!!)

It's free if you have digital cable. In fact, if you have an HD-ready TV (which I do) you can get a free digital cable box that handles HD for you, so you don't have to pay $400 for an HD receiver. Wooo! Sign me up!

Unfortunately, their web page is a fucking complete utter bollocks. Jesus Christ on a popsicle stick, a fucktard 9 year old Downs Syndrome kid who died in 1842 could make a better web page from the grave. How fucking hard is it? (Answer= Not fucking very)

So, I resort to fucking Neaderthal technology and call them up on a motherfucking phone. Yeah, I know, it sucks, but I want HDTV!! Turns out, after many annoying beeps in my fucking ear, thank you very fucking much you lousy vermin, that they fucking don't have anyone working now to take my money, and refer me back to their rotting abortion that is their web page.

The fucking prices are not listed on their web page. They have an item for ordering service, but for me at least, using two different fucking piece of shit browsers, it only gives me a checkbox for ordering cable modem server. HELLO! You stupid sons of bitches, how the HELL do you think I am getting to your web page? Magic fucking fairies carrying the packets to NeverNeverLand and they suddenly appear in your network?!? NO! I ALREADY HAVE YOUR WORTHLESS FUCKING SERVICE, CHECK THE GOD-DAMNED IP ADDRESS SOMETIME MAYBE!!

Why the hell do I have to explain this to them? Fuck me sideways up the ass with gravel for lube. With a telephone pole.

Anyway, looks like I'm fucked for HDTV, unless I find time to call those worthless pustules in the morning before I leave on my lovely six day weekend.

Why the fuck even BE in business if you don't want more money from your customers? Do they do it just for the sheer unmitigated evil of torturing us poor bastards?

AAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!

I think I need a beer. That is all.

We've set some sort of record here in Seattle, over 70 days of 70F+ weather. It's been an awesome summer, but very very dry. This morning was pretty cool, 63F, so I for the first time in a long time I had to wear a windbreaker biking in.

I spent last night fixing my sister-in-law's boyfriend's computer, and then went to my investment club. We're finally back in positive territory, or we were yesterday, today we're back down. Still, we're beating the S&P 500, which fewer than 2% of the professionally managed funds on Wall Street are able to do. Not bad for a drinking club with an investing problem.

Four more days until Husky football... Ooo!

Another typical busy weekend. After going to the farmer's market and playground on Saturday, I went over to B's sister's house to help her boyfriend upgrade his computer. It turned out he had a gateway before and not some generic PC, so we needed a stock ATX case in addition to everything else.

Saturday night we went over to a dinner party with some of B's baby group friends. It was really fun. The kids ran all over the place, and one couple had a newish 11 week old baby boy who was loads of fun to hold, a cute little chubby baby.

Sunday I was woken up at 6:30am to take care of the babies, and we had a brunch party with our basement renter and her boyfriend and her friends, their new baby, and their parents. As soon as that was over, I went back over to my sister-in-laws to work further on the computer upgrade, and then had to race home to get a haircut, shower, shave, and dress for the wedding of my student assistant.

Once again, Isabel was a dancing fool at the wedding. That girls loves to dance. Unfortunately, the DJ only played big band tunes so basically nobody but the infants danced. Harry managed to fall down and give himself a fat lip right before we left for the wedding, then shortly afterwards fell face-down on a sidewalk scraping his nose and giving himself a big knot on his forehead. He looked like a victorious prizefighter staggering around all scraped and bruised, with a huge grin on his face.

Uff-da. Last night I attended a bachelor party for the little brother of a pair of good friends of mine. I've known the bachelor since he was two, and for the past three years he's worked for me as one of my student assistants.

We played five hours of poker, and the newbies did alright considering. They would bluff in really dumb situations, but it would often work out for them. Two of them got cleaned out, and two did really well. I won $20, offsetting my $20 loss earlier in the week.

I finally left at 4am, man it's been a long time since I've been up that late. I ended up getting up at 8:30am, so am running on not much sleep. We've had fun so far, going to the Farmer's Market and the playground. We've got some tasty fresh berries, yum!

SEVEN DAYS TILL HUSKY FOOTBALL? CAN YOU POSSIBLY STAND IT?!?! OOOOOOOOOOOoOOOOOOO!!!!!

10 days until Husky football! Wooo!

Well, moving Harry down to Isabel's room was a disaster for nap time. After they were both theoretically asleep, Isabel climbed out of her crib (she's never done that before) and spent an unknown time destroying things. She gave toys to Harry to play with, she pulled all the diapers out, and she was walking around with one of Harry's pacifiers in her mouth. Uff-da.

Anyway, they need to nap apart. They did fine again last night going to bed, both went down without a struggle.

Man, 11 days until my Huskies start their football season against the defending national champions from last year, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Their stadium seats some insane number like 108,000 screaming Buckeye fans. I am so excited I can barely think of anything else.

Speaking of anything else, we finally moved Harry out of the 10'x10' wide spot in the hallway outside our bedroom that we've been using as a nursery the past few years into Isabel's room downstairs. They both seemed very excited by it, and they both went to sleep easily last night. We'll see how well they do with naps today, that will be the real test. He did wake her up at 7am, over an hour earlier than usual.

We had a great time camping. Harry is walking about 85% of the time these days, and both kids had so much fun. Harry did manage to conk his face against a picnic table and scrape it pretty good, but it's not really camping if nobody gets hurt.

All told, there were 17 of Bridget's relatives there plus the four of us. A pretty good turnout. This was our trip to La Wis Wis campground. Once again I jumped into the Blue Hole, but it took me probably 45 minutes to say fuck it to the sheer cowardace that prevented me from jumping off this cliff into the icy water.

Afterwards I decided to measure the cliff with some string, it turns out the cliff is 29 feet above the water, and the water is about 11 feet deep there. I've never hit bottom, and B's cousin Jonah did a head-first dive into the water without hitting either. Damn is it scary, though. Holy glub. I can't believe I've done it 3 times now.

Going camping for the weekend, hope the Internet is still functioning after Saturday when the Blaster worm starts its denial-of-service attacks against Microsoft...

Ugh. Stupid hacked windows machines. We're nearly cleaned up around work, but a few little problems here and there, plus the fact that people have computers that have been off (and unpatched) for weeks and decide at random to turn them on, so we have to continually scan for vulnerable machines...

Thank glub I have a Mac!

Funny. Last night B decided Harry needed a haircut, and she thought she'd use the #4 clippers instead of the #2 I recommended, and it still left the lil guy with a crewcut. I want to give him a good Marine Corps high-n-tight by shaving the sides and back completely off, but she's already sad that her beautiful boy is now just cute. Heh.

Lots of things to blog about.

Bridget was feeling nauseaous and tired, so she got paranoid that she might be pregnant (she's on the pill currently), so she took a pregnancy test. Not pregnant!

On Friday, when we were taking Harry to his doctor appointment, I was talking to Isabel, asking her about everyone who loved her. "Does Mommy love Isabel?" "Yes, mommy loves Isabel" "Does Harry love Isabel?" "Actually, Daddy, Harry loves toys".

hahahaha. Where the heck does she get comments like these?

We had a rare non-booked weekend last weekend, so I did a ton of yardwork and cleaned house, and we had 3 dinner parties (Fri, Sat, and Sun nights).

Finished watching the 28-episode first two seasons of Family Guy on DVD that I borrowed from a friend.

One of my old poker buddies' roommates (who occasionally played with us) was a computer support guy here at UW, died on Saturday in a motorcycle accident. My last email from him was Friday afternoon. Uff-da. Makes me glad I don't ride motorcycles.

Uff-da. Yesterday we had Harry's 15 month checkup. He's a really big boy. 28.75 pounds, 35.25 inches.

Here are his sizes:

Birth 8lbs 14oz 21.5"
Two weeks 10lbs 4oz 22"
Two months 16lbs 25.5"
Four months 19lbs 27"
Six months 21lbs 28.75"
Nine months 24lbs 12oz 32.75"
One year 26lbs 10oz 33"
Fifteen months 28lbs 12oz 35.25"

He's well off the chart for height, weight, and head size.

Last night my youngest brother finally sold his old 1965 21 window VW Bus. He bought it with the intention of restoring it, but got a girlfriend about 3 weeks later and all work basically halted. He bought a nicer bus that he drives around in quite a while back, so it's good that he got rid of his extra bus, even if I'll miss it.

Afterwards we spent over an hour drinkin' beer and talking. It was good.

Advice for anyone buying stuff online. Before you buy, type the vendor name and "coupon" into Google, you can often get coupon codes. I've saved $15 in the last week doing this with batteries.com and overstock.com.

You know, one of the fun little things I like about living in Seattle where I do is on my bike ride into work, at least during the summer, I get to see one or two float planes flying around, this morning there were two at once. I live sorta right between the two major local float plane "airports", but there are a bunch that are privately owned, I've seen them land all over the place. It's sorta amazing how little lake they need to land.

Yesterday one of Bridget's good friends from Denver was in town and stopped by for the afternoon and dinner. Unfortunately, she showed up right as B was putting Isabel down for her nap, and Isabel refused to nap with all the excitement of a new person and her two kids there. When I got home she was a wreck not having napped, and I finally convinced B that even an hour nap would help her a lot, so I took her and spent about 20 minutes calming her down (she was in tears "I need my mommy!!!") before I could sing her to sleep.

It was very funny seeing Harry with Naomi, the other baby, since they were born the same week, Naomi is 4 days older. Harry is about 12 pounds heavier and a full head taller. She is the size he was at 3-4 months. The difference between 99th percentile and the 1st percentile.

He's getting to the point where he'll take 8-10 steps on his own now occasionally, but he still uses crawling as his main form of mobility.

Ah, back at work. Vacation was awesome, but while I was gone there was a lovely major new security flaw in WinNT/2k/XP that resulted in over 800 machines on campus getting hacked, included a half dozen or so in my dept, and the network folks implementing a temporary firewall of campus for the first time ever. Fortunately my student helpers are excellent and took care of the emergency just fine.

Man, we totally just vegged out yesterday. I watched 4 of the first season episodes of Stargate SG1 on DVD, and basically did nothing. It's good to get back to work after a week off. I also watched 3 episodes of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy that my TiVo had recorded, which were totally funny.

Even funnier is this story about Queer Eye: A close friend of mine has always had razor burn after shaving, for the past 20 years. He'd tried everything, and basically had to settle on only shaving every 2nd or 3rd day so his face could heal. I didn't understand it, and just figured he had super sensitive skin.

He was watching QEftSG last week, when one of the Fab5 gave the advice to always shave after you shower (duh!) because the hot water softens your hair. (Duh!) When my friend saw that, apparently his eyes got really big, he went and took a hot shower, and shaved. He said it was like a hot knife through butter, the best shave he ever had and no irritation at all. I'm smacking my forehead going "D'oh!, how the hell did you not know that?!?" I mean, EVERY guy knows that! Another friend (after he stopped laughing) said, "You do know there is a reason they put 'shit shower and shave' in that order, right?"

Damn funny. That poor bastard, I don't know how he got this old without knowing that one...
